Thank you, Houston!
The 2023 True Quality Roadshow got off to an exciting start on March 9th, as Greenlight Guru, along with sponsors Velentium and Rook Quality Systems, welcomed Houston's top medical device quality, regulatory, clinical data, and engineering professionals for an unforgettable day of MedTech inspiration.
Hosted at the TMC Innovation Center, the free event featured thought-provoking panel discussions, engaging round-tables, a live recording of the Global Medical Device Podcast — and a Texas-sized ton of networking for the nearly 100 in attendance.
The day kicked off with the panel discussion, “Understanding Strategies, Opportunities, and Challenges for MedTech.” The panel felt like a hometown celebration, as Kyle Rose, President of Rook Quality Systems, was joined by two leaders of the Houston MedTech community — Joanna Nathan, Co-Founder & CEO at Prana Thoracic and Dr. Alex Arevalos, CEO and Cofounder of Starling Medical. The trio shared their personal stories, experiences, and thoughts on the future of the industry and the MedTech Ecosystem in Houston.
Next up was the live recording of the Global Medical Device Podcast, where Host Etienne sat down with Dan Purvis, CEO of Velentium to chat about his new book, 28 Days to Save the World, and reflect on his experiences from the frontlines of the pandemic response. Filled with themes of crisis management, leadership, and culture, Purvis dazzled the crowd with insights about how investing in culture when things are calm enables medtech firms to survive crises and thrive on challenge.
For the round table discussion, the event gave voice to the attendees as tables were divided into three categories: product development, executive, and quality assurance/regulatory assurance. Each table had its own 3-4 discussion questions around the themes of Dan Purvis’ book, which were available at the table to spark conversation.
Though the roundtables were excellently varied, one common theme centered around the importance of an end-user driven culture. This topic was brought up throughout the panel and podcast recording — both Joanna Nathan and Dan Purvis lean into inspiring their workers through mission-driven work.
The roundtable discussions rolled into a packed-cocktail hour where attendees made new connections and caught up with old friends, all while enjoying specially selected drinks and hors d'oeuvres. The engagement and excitement from the crowd was remarkable — and unstoppable, as even a fire alarm being set off couldn’t keep the attendees from promptly returning to their conversations and drinks inside once given the all-clear.
They say everything is bigger in Texas, and with this incredible showing from the Houston medical device community, we’re inclined to agree. Thank you again to all of our sponsors, the events team at Greenlight Guru, the TMC Innovation Center — and of course the attendees, all of whom made the first stop on the 2023 True Quality Roadshow, one for the history books.
